About Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

Formula 1 Mexico Grand Prix

Hermanos Rodríguez Circuit

  • No. of Laps: 71
  • No. of Corners: 17
  • Circuit Length: 4.304 km
  • Race Distance: 305.354 km

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez has been the venue for the Mexican Grand Prix championship races from the 1960s to the 1990s. After a pause in 1993, the race returned to the circuit in 2015, largely following the original track from 1959.

The circuit set at a height of 2250 meters above sea level makes the day race quite difficult for the drivers under the intense heat. Furthermore, the track has long straights, wavey corners, and some sharp turns, making for an exciting and chilling racing experience.

Unforgettable Mexican GP Moments

Rosberg's 4th Momentous Win

In 2015, Nico Rosberg won the Mexican Grand Prix, earning his fourth consecutive victory in the Formula One season. Rosberg dominated the race from start to finish, securing the pole position in qualifying and maintaining his lead throughout the race.

Mansell's Thrilling Overtake

In the 1990 Mexican Grand Prix, Nigel Mansell executed one of the most memorable overtakes in Formula One history. He was trailing Ayrton Senna in second place on the final lap, but managed to get a better exit out of the final corner and slipstreamed past Senna on the long straightaway towards the finish line, ultimately winning the race by just 0.014 seconds.

Schumacher's First Finish

On March 22, 1992, in his second season competing in Formula One, Michael Schumacher secured his first podium finish at the Mexican Grand Prix. Driving for the Benetton-Ford team, Schumacher had already impressed many in the previous season, but his performance at the 1992 Mexican GP was a major breakthrough.

Lost the Race, Won the Championship

Despite a 70-point comfortable lead, Hamilton was determined to secure his fifth Formula One World Championship title before the end of the season. However, the race did not go as planned for Hamilton, as he finished in fourth place behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen, Vettel, and Valtteri Bottas. Although Hamilton did not win the race, he had already amassed enough points throughout the season to secure the World Championship title.
